What to do with Pet Ashes
When a pet that has been with us for many years, a simple burial in the backyard or a pet cemetery just doesn’t seem like enough. We want to honor the pet and have a way to remember all the good times or maybe not so good times of our lives that we lived through with our pets. If you deceased pet holds such memories for you, some sort of memorial is in order.
The possibilities are virtually endless when it comes to a final resting place for our pet’s ashes. Many people find that a simple garden added to their yards makes a perfect memorial that can bring us many more years of joy and allow the memory of the deceased pet to remain fresh in our mind. How elaborate you want to get is entirely up to you. A simple flowerbed is enough for some people while others go all out with an entire garden complete with fountain and monument.
A simple stone marker is fairly cheap and is an elegant reminder of your lost pet. The stones can be customized with an inscription or design to eulogize the pet. For a more elaborate reminder, a picture of the pet can be inscribed on the stone.
If the stone is a little out of your range, another more economical option is a wooden box that can contain the pet’s ashes. The box can be sunk into the ground and decorated in a variety of ways, including with inscriptions. A memorial of this type is very economical and many beautiful designs are available.
For those ready to go all out in their pet memorial garden design, an actual head stone type of monument can be added. If an actual head stone is a bit too morbid to have in your yard, how about an obelisk shaped monument with a simple inscription. Another idea is a water fountain. A pet’s ashes can be either buried below the monuments or you can purchase specialized monuments that can contain the ashes inside.
Just because a pet is no longer with us in this world, it doesn’t mean that we want or need to forget them. Losing a pet that has been with us for 20 years can be hard and forgetting them impossible. There is absolutely no need to do so. A memorial can serve the dual purpose of giving you a good way and place to remember your pet and also adding something beautiful to the world in honor of your pet. Memories are forever and a beautiful memorial garden that you can look at every day is an excellent way to keep the memories fresh.
