Seefeld Austria – A Place To Rejuvenate Your Mind And Your Body
In the Tirol region of western Austria lies one of the most charming and laid back ski resorts you are ever likely to find in Europe. In Seefeld you won’t find high-rises – instead you will find lots of quaint buildings with wooden balconies and flower boxes. The quintessential Austria of postcards in other words.
When you want a holiday to rejuvenate your body and soul, Seefeld is the place to go. The town was designed more than 50 years ago to be a haven of tranquility and up to this day it lives up to that expectation. You will most likely only fully understand what I mean when you are sitting in the town center sipping a hot gluhwein while watching skiers from all across Europe strolling around as if today will last forever.
If you are traveling with your baby, just a gentle reminder: breast feeding in public might be socially acceptable in your own country, but it certainly isn’t here. So rather invest in an avent breast pump and keep the milk in a container ready for future use. This way your baby will never be without breast milk and you won’t have to be stared at.
If you are into all-night parties, Seefeld is not the right place for you. That doesn’t imply that the town has no good restaurants. In fact there are numerous eateries, nearly every single one with a lot of character and ambiance. We once dined at a beautiful little olde worlde restaurant near the town center where a musician played traditional Swiss music on a ibanez acoustic guitar. It was a mellow experience and fitted in perfectly with the laid-back atmosphere of Seefeld.
Seefeld’s ski slopes are not meant for wild skiing encounters either. Although there are gondolas and lifts taking you up to as high as 2100m, Seefeld is in fact better known for cross-country skiing. It was the location for all cross-country events during 2 winter Olympic games (1964 and 1976) that took place in Innsbruck 21km from here.
If you arrive in Seefeld without ski equipment, there are a few shops where you can buy good quality Alpine skiing equipment at a reasonable price. You can also rent equipment. Whether you buy or rent obviously depends on how often you plan to ski. For a beginner who hasn’t yet made up his mind whether he likes skiing or not, renting is the better option.
Seefeld is just over 20km away from the city of Innsbruck. Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany is about half an hour’s drive away. Both these locations are great day trips from Seefeld. Both have completely different, but astounding architecture and the surrounding mountain scenery is well worth a trip on its own.
