Cyprus is the ultimate destination for sunshine and beaches. Of course, while it’s a great place to kick back and relax, there is also plenty to do in the way of water sports. And with so many Cyprus hotels located right on the beach, you’ll only be a stone’s throw from the sea.
Sea kayaking is a fun option, and there are plenty of places which hire out kayaks. If you’re not so keen to go it alone, try a kayak group tour. A guide will not only show you the basic safety techniques, but will be able to lead you through some of the more secluded caves, bays and islands that you might not otherwise have discovered. You can book online or through most hotels.
For fun beneath the surface, try snorkeling. You can get lessons if you need to, and there are many places hiring gear. A recommended place for snorkeling and wildlife is the Blue Lagoon – you might even see turtles and dolphins.
With its consistently warm waters, Cyprus is popular with divers all year long. Beginners can sign up for a PADI scuba diving course at many schools around Cyprus, while experienced divers will have plenty to keep them happy. Of all the idyllic diving spots, the most exceptional is the ferry wreck, The Zenobia. This cargo ferry sank in 1980 with 108 trucks on board, and makes an incredible diving spot. Another top wreck is Fraggle Rock, a sunken industrial freighter which has formed an artificial reef. There are also many natural dive sites available in the Protaras and Agia Napa areas, including sea caves, tunnels and underwater canyons. There are plenty of marine creatures to be discovered, from eels to octopuses.
Whether you prefer being in, on, or out of the sea, there is plenty to do in Cyprus. It doesn’t matter if you’re a novice, or a veteran. Book in advance to get the best deals on Cyprus hotels and flights, and don’t forget to pack your bathing suit!
